Useful Tips
- Language: Arabic is Lebanon's mother language, however English and French are highly practiced in the country. You would also be surprised to hear familiar terms in your own language from random strangers you strike up conversations with, since Lebanese people are very curious and open minded to learn new languages.
- Religion: Lebanese people are divided into 18 confessions, but they all live in a friendly harmonious manner. You would be shocked to see a church facing a mosque in the downtwon area and other places.
- Currency: Lebanese Liras (LL) are used, however US dollars are accepted almost everywhere. USD1 = 1500LL
- Transportation: Private cab companies are densely populated in the city, as well as something we call 'servis' cabs, that would cost you around 2,000LL a person, making it around USD1. Buses are also available if you can grasp the routes they take, you'll be ready and set to take one.
- Clothing: Many people dress in a modern chic way, so walking in a skirt or shorts would be quite normal in the downtown area, however people from the Muslim religion tend to walk in burkas and long dresses. So in Lebanon, your sense of style is not clichee but a fact!
